The Final Email - Nonsan

Image
It's unbelievable that the end has come so quick. But regardless of how I feel about it, I will be in America next week. We have been spending the final days very well. I'm so busy! We have started a new Korean class for some of our friends, and we had a big luncheon after church with members and friends yesterday. I finally managed to eat live octopus today at the beach, so I believe I've hit all the worldly bucket list items! The highlight of the week might have been the opportunity to bear my testimony Saturday night with other returning missionaries. The spirit was so powerful, and it was a great opportunity to see how far I and those serving with me have come. I have made some crazy great memories in this country, and while some of then are funny, fascinating, or even downright frustrating, the memories closest to my heart are my experiences with my Savior. I will always be a disciple of Jesus Christ, even after I leave this place. I will always remember Korea as the ...

June 12, 2023 - Nonsan - Meerkat Cafe

Image
Today is another short and sweet email, but I am determined to give an update every week for this last chunk of time, so here's this week's update! We went to a meerkat and raccoon Cafe today. They have pugs, meerkats, and raccoons playing around the Cafe and you can pet them. It was cool! But also really dirty... Serving with a missionary much younger than me in the mission has also proven very special. It's a huge testimony to me as to how far I've come, while also being a large witness of how far I still need to go. And it's way fun. Have a fantastic week again! June 6, 2023 - Nonsan - Dawn of the Final Transfer - 38 days remain

Image
Hello! This will be a short email, but I want to have something to attach all my cool pictures to. A new transfer has come, and with it my new Filipino companion! His name is Elder Orehuela. He is cool! Due to a holiday, my preparation day was moved to Tuesday and became an all day preparation day. So we decided to go crazy. We went to a national park with our members and our friend on baptism date in one city, and then went to a national museum in another city on the other side of our area. I don't think I've ever had a cooler pday. Member missionary work is killing it too. We had two appointments with teaching friends in the house of a member this week. In Korea, that's unheard of, and I'm excited. Have a great week! Pictures: The National Museum. I had such a fantastic week this week! The weather is a bit toasty, but the evenings are perfect, and the sunset has overlapped our outside time every day this week, and it has been gorgeous! There is a rice field in the middle of my city, and I have very much enjoyed the evenings walking through it. We had a special meeting on Tuesday in Jeonju this week. It was special to me personally, and I saw some fun faces. After the meeting, I went on an exchange with Elder Baird in 세종 (Sejong). Its a wicked cool city and I was with a wicked cool companion. We put our Ukrainian friend Katherine on date. We dropped her two weeks ago because she hates "the rules of church", but she came to church and Branch president asked her to be baptized, and she said yes. I don't think she knows what she agreed to, but now our meetings have a clear purpose. Its transfer calls this week, and this will be the news that decides where I will end my mission. Pretty exciting! Have a great great week,...

Backroad Strawberry Village Adventures This was another great week in Nonsan! As we met people this week we focused on the book of mormon. Nearly everyone we met agreed to read specific, long portions of the book! We also met 3 new people, but I don't think two are interested, so the hunt for those truly prepared continues. We started working on pass along cards, advertisements on various platforms, and we have found specific members to help us. I'm excited  For p-day today, we went to the world's largest rooftop garden. It's in Sejong, a city that is entirely less than 10 years old. It was so fun! It feels good to be back in the Daejeon zone. I hope you all have a fantastic week!!   Nonsan, Land of the Strawberries I am now in Nonsan! Crazy! I spent one day with the new office elder to catch him up to speed before taking a train to Nonsan.  First thing we did in Nonsan was get a haircut from a recent convert. He doesn't speak Korean or English, so I'm not quite sure how the missionaries taught him, but the haircut was better than I feared, and was free! My new companion is fantastic. He is a korean wizard, a great teacher, a fantastic athlete, and a piano master. I'm excited to get to know him! We also found 6 people this week! I think that's an all time high on my mission. There are a lot of foreigners in Nonsan, so there is a good mix of people we are meeting. We had a picnic in Nonsan's beautiful park with our ward and had a blast. One new friend came, and we both got to meet the members together. The members here are fun, and there is a good size of youth despite the branch's small size! I always seem to serve in the wards with crazy ...

I ate Fermented Stingray That Tasted Like Pure Ammonia and Also Dog Meat This week was beautiful! And so was the week before! Spring is here! The cherry blossoms are in full bloom, and that means there are lots of families on the streets to talk to. Brother 김원종 (Kim Wonjong) was baptized on Saturday. It was fantastic! The youth in our ward performed a musical number, and afterward they played karaoke. We had interviews with the mission president this week. We see him often in the office though, so it felt regular. I love our mission president! We visited 독립기념관 (Dogliginyeomgwan - Independence Hall) today. Everyone in the mission came together to tour the museums and play games. And, I was the photographer, so I got a ton of good pictures. Meetings are going crazy. Zone conference, interviews, office missionary-specific meetings, you name it! We are on a hunt to eat all of the strange Korean food. It's hard to find, so don't worry that Koreans regularly eat this stuff, but last ...
